Manage a critical incident

Find out what is deemed as a critical incident, what support is available and how to report incidents.

Critical incident support

When faced with a critical incident, you may need some prompt initial external help and guidance. This can be provided by the Essex Educational Psychology Service (EPS).

The support you will receive will be agreed upon between yourself, the educational psychologist (EP) from our critical incident response team and the other services involved.

The EPs can provide the following initial support:

  • advice - including developing and reviewing support plans, providing training and signposting to other resources and services
  • assessment - including assessing likely impacts of incidents
  • identification - including identifying vulnerable pupils and staff
  • prioritisation - including prioritising actions and resources to deal with incidents
