There are 3 differing levels of training available to suit everyone.
Advanced practitioners course for autism
Develops theoretical understanding, practical skills, and knowledge of interventions and strategies to support attendees to effectively include and understand autistic pupils.
The course will specifically help attendees to:
- develop an in-depth understanding of autism - including the 3 areas of difference
- develop an understanding of the 3 psychological theories of autism
- develop an understanding of sensory differences in autistic children and related interventions
- increase understanding of social communication differences in autistic pupils and how to support these
- better understand and manage communicating behaviour
- better understand the perspectives of autistic individuals and parents of autistic children
Costs
It costs £30 and is open to staff working directly with autistic children in the following settings:
- Autism Support Centres (ASCs)
- infant
- junior
- primary
- secondary
Course details
Sessions are delivered by:
- educational psychologists
- health colleagues
- Autism Strategy Team members
- Outreach Service colleagues
- peer educators from Autism Central Programme
In the autumn term 2024 it will be held at The Stanway School in Colchester on Tuesday mornings.
The course begins on Tuesday 1 October 2024.
Sessions will take place between 10am and 12pm across 11 weekly 2-hour sessions (excluding half-term).

Good Autism Practice training
From the Autism Education Trust, the Good Autism Practice Module will be delivered through your SEND inclusion partner and includes:
- 2 sessions lasting 2 hours each
- tasks to complete in between sessions
Costs
It’s free and available for early years settings, primary schools, secondary schools and post 16 education.

Good Beginnings course
A free 10-week course for parents and carers of children of pre-school age up to the end of the reception class with autism or social communication difficulties.
