​​​​​​​​​​​Introduction to SEND in Essex (1-day course for schools and colleges)

This course provides an introduction to key SEND legislation and processes, including how these work in Essex. The course is for staff from schools and FE colleges (a separate similar support will be hosted for the Early Years sector). The day focuses on four elements:

  • An Introduction to The SEND Code of Practice
  • Ofsted and SEND
  • SEND Finance
  • LA SEND Teams and their roles in settings/schools

Who is this course for?

Headteachers, SENCOs, or those becoming SENCOs, who are either new to the role or to the role within Essex.

Where and when will it be held?

Wednesday 3rd November 2021, 9:30am – 4pm
The event will be virtual – an MS Teams meeting invitation will be sent to you.

Early Years SEND Funding for Managers / SENCOs of PVI Settings and Childminders

This training will give you a better understanding of the possible streams of additional funding that is available in the Early Years sector to support children with SEND and will enhance the information around funding available on the Early Years​ website. 

 

At the end of the course participants will have:

  • A clear knowledge and understanding of the different streams of funding available.
  • Be aware of the processes of making an application to apply for funding and where to submit it.
  • Be aware of the information required when filling in an application or when information has been requested.
  • A chance to discuss strategies, ways of utilising the additional funding and to record maximum impact.  

 Length: 2 hours

 

Who is this course for?

  • Specifically for managers to attend jointly with their SENCOs
  • Childminders
 
Where and when will it be held?

These sessions will be held online via teams:

  • Thursday 1 December 2022, 2pm to 4pm
  • Thursday 1 December 2022, 5pm to 7pm
  • Thursday 9 March 2023, 2pm to 4pm
  • Thursday 9 March 2023, 5pm to 7pm

One Planning for Early Years Settings, Schools and Colleges

One Planning is the approach taken in Essex to enacting the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice. It is a way of completing the graduated approach (assess, plan, do, review) in a person-centred way. 

This training introduces staff working in educational settings to One Planning and to a range of resources and materials to support One Planning. 

This virtual training provides an introduction to key concepts and materials relating to One Planning. Attendees will be encouraged to develop the knowledge and skills they learn through attendance at One Planning 'surgeries' run within their clusters by their cluster Inclusion Partner.

Length: 2 hours

Who is this course for?

Primarily, SENCOs and those with key roles within educational settings focusing on SEND, but it would be beneficial to all educational provider staff including school and college leaders and setting managers.

Where and when will it be held?

The session will be delivered virtually on the following dates/times:

  • Monday 21 Novemeber 2022, 10am to 12:00pm
  • Thursday 26 January 2023, 1:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Tuesday 14 March 2023, 10am to 12:00pm
  • Tuesday 16 May 2023, 1:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Thursday 15 June 2023, 1:30pm​ to 3:30pm
