Essex Healthy Schools is a school health improvement strategy to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

The strategy allows schools to focus on the specific needs of their school community around the following 6 key expectations:

  • trauma-informed and trauma-reducing practice
  • PSHE education
  • mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • physical activity
  • food and nutrition
  • pupil voice

An annual awards ceremony is held to celebrate schools' achievements and showcase areas of best practice.

Each school has an allocated healthy school engagement worker on hand to offer support and advice.

Schools also have an annual healthy schools profile visit where they have the opportunity to share good practices and discuss any health and wellbeing concerns.

Schools are sent a completed Healthy Schools profile document which includes a Healthy Schools offer of support, if required.
