Prevent guidance and support

Information about Prevent, how to implement it, respond to extremism and radicalisation.

Overview

Prevent is part of the UK's Counter-terrorism strategy (CONTEST). Its purpose is to safeguard and support vulnerable people to stop them from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It’s also there to support the rehabilitation and disengagement of those already involved in terrorism.

For more information on Prevent visit the Home Office Counter-terrorism strategy (CONTEST) collection.

Under Section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, settings must have 'due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism'. This is known as the 'Prevent duty'.

Channel is a national programme providing early-stage support to those identified as being vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism.

For more information visit the Home Office Channel and Prevent Multi-Agency Panel (PMAP) guidance.
