Early Career Teacher (ECT) Induction AY 2023 to 2024
From September 2023 Essex County Council Local Authority Appropriate Body (hereafter referred to as 'Essex AB') will no longer be allowed to accept ANY new ECTs as the DfE expect schools to register their ECTs with the Teaching School Hub Appropriate Body that is in their geographical area.
On Thursday 26 May 2022, the DFE announced the decision to move to a system in which Teaching School Hubs (TSHs) will become the main providers of Appropriate Body services and Local Authorities will no longer carry out this role. This is in response to the Opportunity for all white paper, published in March 2022. Appropriate bodies (ABs) are organisations that have the main quality assurance role in statutory teacher induction.
Main points to note:
Schools who would normally access AB services through Essex AB will need to ensure that from September 2023 they register ALL new ECTs with a TSH AB.
Schools who have ECTs currently registered with Essex AB, will continue to receive our full support through to completion of induction or until July 2024 (whichever comes first).
Schools who have ECTs currently registered with Essex AB who are not scheduled to complete their induction by September 2024 will be transferred to a TSH AB of the school's choice towards the ed of AY 2023/24 when we will work in close partnership with the TSH ABs to ensure a smooth transition for you and your ECTs.
We recommend that you also read the briefing pack that has been put together by the DfE for all Local Authority AB's to share with their schools.
