  • the social, emotional and well-being needs of deaf children and young people
  • appropriate differentiation and support strategies

Teaching and support staff new to working with a child or young person that is deaf or has a hearing loss child or young person.

A quadrant-based setting or remote using Microsoft Teams.

An introduction to make sure children and young people with single-sided deafness and hearing loss are able to fully participate in their school setting.

  • the social, emotional and well-being needs of children and young people with single-sided deafness
  • appropriate support strategies

Bespoke courses on vision impairment

We run bespoke courses for all settings. These are designed by teachers of the deaf alongside the setting staff to address the needs of specific children and young people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

Topics covered in recent courses have included the following:

  • deaf awareness for hearing friends
  • including a child/young person that is deaf or has a hearing loss in your pre-school, school or college (as appropriate)
  • supporting the listening and learning needs of a newly cochlear-implanted child or young person
  • supporting the social and emotional needs of children and young people that are deaf or have a hearing loss
  • teaching literacy and using phonics with children and young people who are deaf or have a hearing loss
  • using a radio aid effectively to support a student that is deaf or has a hearing loss

Sign Language

A range of courses are offered by our Sign Language instructors to meet the needs of teachers and support staff directly working with children using British Sign Language (BSL).

Our courses include the following:

  • an Introduction to BSL
  • BSL for the school curriculum

Variable. Usually delivered in 6-week blocks.

Any staff working directly with children using BSL as a core part of their communication.
