Hosting a Resourced Provision

As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening SEND sufficiency across the county, we have developed a clear and coordinated protocol to support schools interested in hosting such a provision.

Our definitions

  • Resourced Provisions – places reserved in mainstream schools for those who require specialist provision. These are used for pupils with an EHCP but can also include those with Code K *(SEN Support). Places are commissioned by ECC and are place-funded with top-up per pupil.
  • Partnership Provisions – SEMH resourced provisions, where children remain on roll at their school but access a SEMH resourced provision for a time-limited placement. These are place funded.

Important to Note

Enhanced Provisions – was previously and generally the term used to describe all the above and will no longer be used in Essex.

To ensure transparency and consistency, we have introduced a structured process with two formal windows each academic year for schools to express interest in hosting a resourced or partnership provision. The process includes:
•    Identification of need based on local intelligence and sufficiency data.
•    Centralised communication to schools within the scope of identified need, highlighting priority areas.
•    Submission of an Expression of Interest Form during the designated windows: 

  • Autumn Term 1
  • Spring Term 2

We are keen to work in partnership with schools who share our vision for inclusive education and are interested in developing specialist support within their settings. If you believe your school could be a suitable host, we encourage you to complete the Expression of Interest Form during the next submission window.

Following submission, shortlisted schools will be invited to discuss the opportunity further, including operational standards and service level agreements. Final decisions will be made in collaboration with Essex County Council and relevant stakeholders, with support provided throughout the implementation phase.
