Autism Support Centre

Help parents and carers apply for enhanced provisions for children and young people.

There are 8 mainstream schools across Essex which provide extra support for autistic pupils.

This extra support is known as 'enhanced provisions’ provided through each school’s Autism Support Centre (ASC). They are not the same as special schools.

Autism Support Centre (ASC) placement requests

We have 4 primary and 4 secondary school ASCs which provide ‘enhanced provisions’.

All requests must be made through the annual review process and cannot be made directly to schools and their ASCs.

Request a school viewing

Parents and carers should only be encouraged to request a school or ASC viewing if their child(ren) meets all of the following requirements:

  • a primary diagnosis or need of autism
  • an education, health and care plan (ECHP) where the primary need is autism
  • be academically and cognitively able to attend mainstream school with appropriate support from the ASC
  • overcome their barriers to learning with appropriate support from the ASC

All placement decisions are made at our monthly autism panel meetings.
