Governors are vital in setting the ethos and putting in place governance to make sure children in care (CiC) achieve well and have access to the right support.
The governors and the governing body's responsibilities include the following roles:
- make sure there’s a designated teacher (DT) who undertakes appropriate training
- consider an annual report from the DT
- act on any issues the annual report raises, support the DT and maximise the impact of the role
For more information about the roles and responsibilities of governors and DTs download the following documents:

The Essex Virtual School has now established a Board of Governors. Details on this will be shared in due course.
