Sustainability Leads
By September 2025, all schools are expected to appoint a Sustainability Lead to coordinate climate action efforts. The role includes:
- develop and implement the school’s climate action plan
- engage staff, students, and the wider school community in sustainability initiatives
- stay informed about local and national sustainability resources, training, and policies
- connect with networks and attend events to share knowledge and gain support.
Register your school’s Sustainability Lead via Education Essex online website. By registering, you’ll receive updates on resources, training, and events tailored to support your role.
Networks for collaboration
Joining a network provides valuable opportunities to connect with peers, share ideas, and access expert advice. Key networks to explore include:
- Essex Schools’ Climate Action Network (ESCAN): A student-led network for schools across Essex. ESCAN offers termly meetings and a regular newsletter with updates and opportunities for collaboration
- UKSSN Operations Group: A national network for Sustainability Leads, providing peer-to-peer support and best practices for leading climate action in schools
