Sustainability Lead networks and events

Details of the role of Sustainability Leads, key networks and events for collaboration and support.

Sustainability Leads

By September 2025, the Department for Educations expects all schools to appoint a Sustainability Lead to coordinate climate action efforts. The role includes:

  • develop and implement the school’s climate action plan
  • engage staff, students, and the wider school community in sustainability initiatives
  • stay informed about local and national sustainability resources, training, and policies
  • connect with networks and attend events to share knowledge and gain support.

Register as a Sustainability Lead

To register your schools sustainability lead, please complete our Sustainability Lead registration form.

By registering you will receive updates including resources from us and our partners, funding opportunities along with training and events tailored to support you in your role.

Training, events and networks

A range of events and networks designed to support and enhance sustainability initiatives in schools will be shared here.

Joining a network provides valuable opportunities to connect with peers, share ideas, and access expert advice:

  • ECC is working closely with Let's Go Zero to support training offers for Essex schools. Dates for training in the summer term 2025 will be released shortly
  • UKSSN Operations Group: A national network for Sustainability Leads, providing peer-to-peer support and best practices for leading climate action in schools
