The following Attendance training and workshops are available throughout the academic year.

Attendance Essentials

We provide training on the basic elements of managing attendance, including information on data, attendance interventions and processes including school-based meetings.

The training is open to Attendance Leads or Officers (or those new to Essex), or for those who would like to refresh their basic knowledge. It is also suitable for any staff involved in improving school attendance for Key Stages 1 to 4.

The training will:

• provide essential information about managing school attendance
• cover a brief overview of the new DfE guidance: Working Together to Improve School Attendance

​How to Make a Successful Referral for Legal Intervention

The training will give staff the confidence to manage attendance concern cases that may result in statutory intervention. It will also help raise awareness and understanding of the processes required before referring a case for statutory intervention.

The training is open to all staff who are involved in improving school attendance.

The training will include:

• necessary information to enable staff to prepare cases of attendance concern
• providing staff with an understanding of when to consider referring cases for statutory intervention
• ensuring staff are provided with any updates regarding statutory intervention

School Attendance Meetings and Reasonable Adjustments

​This course is aimed at all those involved in improving school attendance, Attendance Officers, Pastoral Support and Senior Leadership Teams with responsibility for attendance​.

The course is an online event. It aims to support attendance staff in making the most of school attendance meetings. The session will explore:

• asking probing questions to establish potential barriers to attendance
• look at putting in place an effective and suitable action plan
• making reasonable adjustments
• appropriate signposting support
• understanding possible outcomes and escalation

Transition Planning and Attendance

This training aims to raise the importance and profile of transition planning in schools.

The course is suitable for all those involved with improving school attendance including Senior Leaders and Attendance Officers in school, who will benefit from this presentation.

The session is dedicated to the importance and impact that forward planning and implementation of positive and effective transition work can have on future school attendance. It will discuss the impact both positive and negative transitions have on young people and their attendance. It will involve sharing of best practice advice and effective systems/planning to maximise the opportunity for a positive and successful transition period.
