The Specialist Teaching and Preschool service hosts a dedicated Preschool SEN support and outreach team, as well as, providing specialist support from the Specialist Teacher team for young children with sensory impairments. Initial referrals to the Preschool service are made by Health professionals.
Preschool service activities focus on supporting families and early years’ practitioners to meet the needs of babies and young children with the full range of complex special educational needs and disabilities within the coordinated framework of Early Support.
The team delivers the Essex Good Beginnings programme for children with social communication difficulties or autism, which includes parent and practitioner advice and training as well as targeted intensive interventions.
The team provides a framework of support for preschool children with high needs to access their entitlement to mainstream nursery education, and supports their transition to school.
