Children and young people

The role of the Virtual School is to promote the educational achievement of children in care, whether educated in Essex or placed out of authority.
This is explained in the Welcome document.
From the It’s My Life events and the
Children in Care Council I have been told that some young people have
difficulties getting help with learning. Your success in education is important
to me and to help with this I have purchased a licence for you to access the Britannica® School - an award-winning online resource from
Encyclopedia Britannica. To help you access this there is a supporting document and an e-safety guide. A letter has been sent to you with details of the username. Click on the Britannica logo above to get started.
All About Me
All About Me - factsheet Children and young people said that they find it difficult meeting and talking to new social workers and other adults that work with them.
These forms have been designed by the It’s My Life Children in Care Council to address this. They should be used when a professional first meets a young person to help build a stable trusting relationship and open up discussions.
Using these forms help Essex County Council to meet its Pledge to children and young people: ‘to make sure you have a social care worker who will spend time with you and get to know you?’.

It's My Life
Every summer children in care come together to express their views about their life experiences of care and education. This is put together in an annual report It’s My Life.
The feedback children and young people give is honest and can help us to work more effectively with children and young people and to build services to better meet their needs.
I would suggest that all professional working with children and young people in care read this report and consider what steps however small can improve their experience of being in care.
Support for children in care
Become, formerly known as Who Cares Trust, is a charity for children in care and care leavers.
