Essex Young Carers Service has two dedicated School Development Co-ordinators and their role is to promote the national Young Carers in Schools Award, this is accredited by The Carers Trust and The Children's Society. There are three levels to the award, Bronze, Silver and Gold. The aim is to have the majority of schools to the Bronze level in the next three years. The award itself benefits both young people and staff within school. It helps raise awareness, improves wellbeing and confidence, improves attendance and has a positive impact in the achievement for Young Carers. The School Development Co-ordinators are able to meet with schools and support them through the process of achieving the award free of charge. Once a school has pledged to achieve the award they are able to hold school assemblies and staff training.
