SEND Public Engagement

02/05/2019

The Education Department within Essex County Council is looking to improve the outcomes and life experiences of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We want to share our vision with you, understand what is important to you and work in partnership with you to develop our ongoing strategy for SEND in Essex.

A period of public engagement is already underway, running for 10 weeks until Friday 31 May 2019 and you are invited to complete a survey and give your views on:

  • Vision for SEND in Essex
  • Proposed ways of working
  • Proposals for an Essex SEND Strategy as we move forward

This survey is aimed at those working within Education, Health and Social Care as well as parents/carers and most importantly, the young people themselves.

We would like to encourage as many people as possible to complete the survey online, however we do appreciate this is not always possible. Paper copies and easy read versions can be requested by email to: senstrategy@essex.gov.uk

If you wish to submit a response for an organisation or group of people, or provide a more detailed response than allowed for in this survey, written submissions will also be accepted by email.

The Voice of Families

In addition to the survey, the parent/carer forum for Essex (Essex Family Forum) will be hosting 'Vision for SEND in ESSEX - Parent/Carer Engagement Workshops'.

These are free to attend and will be held at various locations across Essex including 12 daytime sessions and 4 evening sessions.

The knowledge, insight and lived experiences of our parent/carers are what makes them experts and in order to get this right, it's crucial their voices are heard! Input at these events will be anonymous and fed back forming part of the public engagement that will influence the strategy for SEND in Essex.

Full workshop details including dates/locations and how to book, can be found here.

Please help by sharing this information with as many families as possible.

After 10 weeks, responses from the survey and the workshops will be considered and an announcement of how we intend to proceed will follow in the Summer tem.

This is the perfect opportunity to get involved and have your say so that together, we can and will make a difference!

Further information can also be found on the Essex Family Forum Engagement Letter.
