Pupil Place Planning team

Pupil Place Planning are responsible for planning and commissioning a sufficient and diverse supply of school places, managing surplus school capacity and supporting school organisation proposals.

The broad functions of Pupil Place Planning are:
  • Production of an annual School Place Commissioning Plan
  • Manage the production of accurate forecasts of demand for school places and special school places, using demographic information, housing data and cross-border movements of pupils and parental preference
  • Ensuring Essex County Council fulfils its statutory duty to provide sufficient school places
  • Promoting diverse provision, ensuring increased choice through the production of accurate pupil forecast
  • Assessing the impact on the demand for school places of new housing developments, developing solutions and identifying the need for develop contributions
  • Monitoring the supply of school places in Essex
